I Wouldn't Call It Cheating...Exactly

I haven't done much on the "quantity" plan so far this week. Every time I try I end up not liking what I put on paper. Today, in the classroom, I found one of my notebooks from my 100 words a day for 100 days challenge. Some of the scenes in there that have to do with Danger are REALLY bad. Some don't fit where the story has gone. And some are just right. So, rather than beat myself up about not producing and take on the guilt Monika is forcing on me (just kidding), I decided to type up some of those pages and tweak them as I write. The pages may not be brand new today, but they were new back then and they fit the story now. I'm increasing my page count and the quality of my story. In the end, that's what matters.

In other news, my event that got switched from the back end of the book to being the 1st turning point has now gone back. Actually, it's leading up to the Big Black Moment, the most critical point of the story. It feels better there and what I have in its place at the 1st turning point is much better for character development. (OH! In my 100/100 notes, I also found the plotted turning points for this story, the list I thought I'd lost quite a while ago amid many tears and great wails! What? You didn't hear me crying at the top of my lungs back in November???)

As for the progress meter, I'll update later on in the week...when I've made some progress.

Increasing 'your page count and the quality of your story' is a good thing :)

I think that qualifies as page count!

As long as you're working on the book, I wouldn't call it cheating at all. How many times have I sat down to work on a scene and ended up laboring over a paragraph for 20 minutes only to end up with less words than when I started. If I used word count as a measure of success, I'd be very depressed after that.

Cat, I hear ya on being depressed if I just went by word count. I've already planned to take some of my recent sections out.

Thanks, Bonnie and Kelly! That's JUST what I needed to hear.

I wouldn't call it guilt...exactly. Think of it more as encouraging, friendly, accountability-holding writer solidarityness.

Okay, that sounds much better. Whatever it is, it worked. I'm off and running again...and on BRAND NEW PAGES! Well, I will be when I stop blog-hopping and get to work!
