Last night, I had a dream that I finaled in
Romance Writers of America's Golden Heart Contest. I didn't win, I know that, but my name and my manuscript title were up on the electronic board they were using as they announced the finalists. Hhhmm, what do you think that means?

Hey, cool. Definitely enter this year.
I'd just take it as a wish fulfillment dream. Something you would love to have occur.
I'm a glutton for punishment, Cindy. When I first entered in 2005, I vowed to enter every year that I had a story ready until I signed a contract. Danger will DEFINITELY be ready for the 2009 GH!
LOL Let's hope it was a dejavu type of dream. If so, next summer you'll be living it. ;)
I could live with that, Nita! Of course, I'd take a book contract over finaling in the GH ANY DAY!
Ah, but a final in the GH often leads to a contract. Why not have both? LOL
Heck, if you're going to dream, dream BIG!
One of my favorite quotes is by Brian Littrell. "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll still land among the stars."
You're right, Nita! And I love that quote too. I had it on a poster in my classroom.
I've noticed a pattern that non-series finalists tend to do a HECK of a lot better with their GH status. Several winners received multi-book contracts almost immediately after conference. So enter a ST category and you're good to go! lol
I think I'm saving my money this year. No plans to go to DC, so might as well skip the stress. Good luck with Danger!!
Avery, I am a bit confused about which category to enter. I'm targeting Intrigue, but I've always been more focused on the suspense. But, the story is ultimately a romance...I think...
Avery, I agree with you. When you're targeting one publisher, one line, if you don't get it perfect, you're out of luck. GH is not the best place for series writers to get ahead. Lots better chance with local chapter contests.
Lexi, I will be in the crowd cheering you on next year as you walk up the steps to accept your award. You go girl!
Keep entering then, Lexi!
Lexi, if you're targeting Intrigue, I would enter the Series Suspense/Adventure or whatever it is, category. It's been revamped specifically for line like Intrigue and Silhouette Romantic Suspense.
Thanks, ladies!
