Thanks Anyway

I applied last month for a teaching job in Japan. Today they were having information sessions and interviews here in Austin. If they liked you today, they would ask you back for a personal interview tomorrow.

They didn't like me.

Personally, I think I was a little too wild for them. Because I've lost weight, the dress I wore was a bit more...low cut that it used to be. They mentioned women should only have 1 set of earrings in and no long danglers. I had 2 sets of earrings in and a 3rd hole empty. Tattoos are apparently taboo. I don't have any, but I've always thought about getting one. The other candidates were all fresh out of college. As you know, I'm not. They stressed enthusiasm in lessons and in the group presentations. I get excited about teaching, but I'm sorry, I can't fake it with a bunch of people I just met.

But I'm seriously okay with this rejection. (Hell, after all those writing rejections, it's not so bad!) It just means that there's a reason I'm not going. Maybe it means something bigger and better is awaiting me here in Austin. Maybe it means, as much as I like the idea of living and working overseas, my personality isn't ready.

Whatever the reason, it's back to the drawing board I go. Now I think I'll make myself feel better with a margarita. Thanks for all the positive thoughts. I knew I could count on you!

Maybe Japan isn't the place for you. I'm sure you'd be happier teaching in Ireland or Scotland. ;)

And maybe there's a kid in Austin who really needs a teacher like you next year. like you said, everything happens for reason. You'll find out soon enough.

Absolutely, Nita, but it's so hard getting a work visa for the UK. I know. I've already looked into it.

I just hope I find out sooner rather than later what my next move will be.

This is all my fault. I just got here and saw your good thoughts post, so mine are late. lol

Anyway, I'm sorry you didn't get this job, but I'm sure greater things are waiting in the wings! Are you still considering teaching in...lordy, I can't remember, but that other overseas job you talked about a while back?

Bummer, chica! :?) But you're right - when a door shuts, a window opens. Who knows what the universe has in store?

And - I've always wanted a tatoo, and have two earring holes on one side (but only one on the other). So where does that leave me??

One of these years, we really have to room together at Nat'l or something. LOL!

Avery, I've talked about so many overseas jobs I don't know which one you're referring to! But, ya know, I kinda love Austin and my friends and my condo that I'll be moving into in August and having some of my family close.

Kerry, I'm sure we'd have a BLAST!

I have to confess anywhere in Asia is lower on my "must go" list than just about anywhere. Dunno why, though. :)

I'm sorry you got rejected, though. *hugs*
